Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Indiana Holiday Art, Writing, & Multimedia High School Contest - Dr. King said, "Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal." Through art, writing, or multimedia, use this quote as inspiration to show how your generation can create a bridge to peace for the future. 1.) Next Generation Teacher Scholarship - The Next Generation Teacher Scholarship was created to help the next generation of Hoosier teachers pay for college. The State of Indiana will provide 200 scholarships each year to high-achieving high school and college students interested in pursuing a career in education. Healthcare Leaders Scholarship - $1,000 Nurse.org is seeking applications for the Healthcare Leaders Scholarship. To be eligible for the $1000 award, students must have a GPA of 3.0 or above, be pursuing a degree related to healthcare, and submit a 600-1000 word essay by January 29th. Right to Life of Southwest Indiana Oratory Scholarship - Student must be a junior or senior in high school. Contestants are to research, write, and present an original pro-life speech. This year's theme is "Every Life has Value." The following specific issues can be addressed: abortion, euthanasia, infanticide, or stem cell research. The speech is to be 5-7 minutes in length. Logan's Promise Scholarship - $1,000 The students eligible for Scholarship must be a graduating full-time high school senior who attend Vanderburgh County, Warrick County, Posey County or Gibson County schools in the State of Indiana or Henderson County in the State of Kentucky. Applicants must be planning to enter an accredited college or university no later than the fall following graduation. Applicants must have a strong commitment to not “drinking & driving” and knowledge of Logan’s Promise; involvement in the community, active volunteer and/or charity work; demonstrate academic achievement with a minimum grade point average of 3.0; at least 3 references; gross income per family is preferred; must be able to interview and a United States citizen. Applicants must fill out an application and complete an essay on Logan’s Promise and how it influences your choices in life. Applicants are expected to complete 15 hours minimum of Logan’s Promise volunteer time and attend one of the counties specified.
