Elberfeld Elementary Curriculum

In Indiana, students in grades 3, 4 & 5 will take the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus (ISTEP+).  The test measures English/language arts and mathematics at each grade level, as well as science at grades 4, and social studies in grades 5.   ISTEP+ consists of two major components, the Multiple-Choice Assessment and the Applied Skills Assessment (open-ended).  The Multiple-Choice and Applied Skills assessments are criterion-referenced and are designed to measure students’ mastery of the Indiana Academic Standards.  Sample items are available at www.doe.in.gov/istep

ISTEP+ will be administered in two parts:  the Applied Skills Assessments will be administered inMarch, and the Multiple-Choice Assessments will be administered in Apri.  Please contact your child’s teacher for specific testing schedules and times.

What can parents do to support students during testing?

  • Make sure your child has plenty of sleep the night before.
  • Provide a nutritious breakfast.
  • Encourage your child to do his or her very best, but don’t place too much emphasis on the test.
  • Schedule appointments outside of the testing schedule.

If you would like more information regarding ISTEP+, visit the ISTEP+ InfoCenter on the Indiana Department of Education’s website, or call 1-888-54-ISTEP.
