NES Assessment Instruments
Teachers at Newburgh Elementary administer the ISTEP+ testing for grades three, four, and five. Acuity diagnostic assessments are used four times during the year to monitor student learning in grades three through five as well. DIBELS reading assessments are completed three times during the year for all students in grades Kindergarten through second.
Teachers also use class work, student journals, and pre and post tests of subject material to evaluate student progress. Each student's progress is recorded on a report card that is sent to his/her parents every nine weeks. Student portfolios are used in all grades to show progress in writing development and vocabulary usage.
The computer lab is used to reinforce skills being taught in the classrooms. Teachers can assess student progress by viewing the student history report on the computer. The report indicates the number of activities a student has completed and the percentage of correct answers.
As part of our school improvement plan, teachers will investigate other assessment tools for possible implementation. Newburgh Elementary received an "A" letter grade designation last year.
